Nancy Navarro, Candidate for Montgomery County Board of Education, District 5, 2006
Thank you for visiting!
Are you concerned about how well our children are
prepared to meet the challenges of the future?
I am, and that is why I’m running for the
District 5 Seat on the MCPS Board of Education. I am the best candidate
for this position because I am committed to improving student achievement
and I posses proven leadership experience. I am a parent with children
currently in the school system. I know firsthand both the strengths
of MCPS and the areas where challenges remain.
My
record on the board speaks
for itself. I have been a champion for children by supporting and
voting for many initiatives. Here are some of those initiatives:
• Supporting expansion of full-day Kindergarten
to 123 schools.
• Strengthening special education in middle and high
schools.
• Reducing general education class sizes in core subject
areas.
• Increasing supports at high school to strengthen literacy,
improve performance on High
School Assessments, and boost eligibility for extracurricular
activities.
• Supporting middle school reform and the Middle School
Magnet Consortium.
• Supporting the expansion of IB programs
• Supporting the expansion of programs to improve student
safety on buses—Ride by the Rules.
• Adding new ESOL parent community coordinators.
• Supporting the expansion of Study Circles to encourage greater
parent involvement.
• Supporting the development of the Roberto Clemente Middle
School Upcounty
Program.
• Supporting the phase-in of the Center for the Highly Gifted
to grade 5 at Chevy Chase ES.
